Him and Her

HIM AND HER

By Naduni De Silva

There was a girl,
In the middle of a lonely road,
Waiting for someone,
Waiting for a friend,
To come and hold her,
Before she leaves.

There was a boy,
In the middle of a crowd,
Waiting for someone,
Waiting for a true friend,
To come and hold him,
Before he falls.

Same school, same class,
Just popular and unpopular,
Famous and infamous,
Divided by wealth,
Divided by society.

She's called a loner,
A nerd and a bitch,
With no friends.

He's called a good boy,
The perfect and the star,
With friends.

But was she happy?
Was he happy?
Did they enjoy their lives?
Or did they suffer?

No one knew,
No one saw,
That both were crying,
Deep inside.

She wasn't a loner,
She wasn't a bitch,
But that's what they call her,
That's what they knew about her.

He wasn't perfect,
He wasn't a star,
But he was fake,
He was just an ordinary guy,
With a given title.

Months passed, years passed,
She became scared,
He became tired,
Of all the things that happen,
Around them.

She wanted to go,
He wanted to leave,
She ended up in a lonely road,
He ended up in a crowd.

Then she saw him,
He saw her,
Amongst of everything,
They were the sun,
And the moon.

She knew him,
How can she not?
He's the school star,
The Mr. Popular.

He didn't know her,
Didn't know they were in the same school,
And in the same class,
How can he know,
When they labeled her as a loner?

They saw each other,
Like they have never seen,
Someone so vulnerable,
Someone so bright.

Her heart skipped a beat,
His heart skipped a beat,
One step towards him,
One step towards her.

The sparks that flew,
The hearts that beat,
The smiles that grew,
The birds that sang,
Told the whole world,
Everything they hid.

They became friends,
They became lovers,
And they became happy.

But was it a happily ever after?

Others, who called her a loner, a bitch,
Others, who made her life miserable,
The ones who made him a fake star,
The ones who were his fake friends,
So what they have become,
Saw what they shared.

Their hearts became cold,
Their eyes became dark,
Their cruelty became immeasurable,
Their jealousy was uncontrollable.

It was raining,
It was his and her anniversary,
The day they became friends,
The day they became lovers.

He was there waiting for her,
With flowers and a ring,
She was there, opposite the road,
Waiting for it to turn green.

The red light turned green,
Her smile grew wide,
She started running,
To his arms,
That made her happy,
That made her feel loved.

Little did she know,
That, world is a cruel place,
World is filled with demons,
That envied her pure smile,
That envied her pure heart.

They saw she was running,
Saw she was happy,
They raced the car in red,
Not caring what will happen,
Not caring what will result.

Her eyes were on him,
Her ears were on him,
But she didn't know her fate,
Nor she knew,
There was a car speeding,
Towards her.

Five more steps towards him,
Three more steps towards him,
And, ' CRASH '.

Her eyes widened,
Her heart raced,
Her ears drummed,
Tears fell.

She heard him screaming,
Heard him calling her name.

She wanted to run,
To those arms,
But she knew she can't,
And she was helpless,
All she could do was lay there,
And weep silently.

She cursed the world,
Cursed the people,
Who didn't let her smile,
Who didn't let her be happy.

Her vision blurred,
Breathing became hard.

She felt him hugging her,
Felt him crying.

She wanted to wipe his tears,
She wanted to see him smile,
For one last time.

But it was hard,
The pain was immense,
Her body was on fire.

She knew she can't make it,
She knew she won't make it.

She wanted to tell him that,
She loves him, and,
She was happy being with him.

But she didn't have the strength.

She could only pray,
That he'll be happy and safe,
That he'll always smile,
For her,
For what they had.

She knew it's time to go,
Time to say goodbye.

She took a one last heavy breath,
And slowly released it,
Making a one last wish,
Asking from the God,
To tell him that,
She'll be there, with him,
In his heart,
Until the end of everything
.
